Aircards

Name and description of the product/service developed

Aircards create web-based Augmented Reality experiences for brands, organisations and marketers. Aircards uses Web AR technology, which means that the AR experience takes place within the mobile web browser. The company manages all Web AR development, technical coordination, cloud-based infrastructure deployment, and provide a sophisticated analytics suite for performance analysis.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The grant supported Aircard’s ‘Spatial Analytics’ proprietary technology to bring it to market for commercial sale. Spatial Analytics allows brands to track user behaviour within any 3D Augmented Reality scene, enabling a much deeper level of analysis of exploration and interaction of physical touch points. This new product innovation will enable the collection and visualisation of user behaviour, delivering a highly enhanced level of campaign analysis.

Lesimo

Name and description of the product/service developed

Lesimo provides online courses in English, academic subjects and other languages to international students, workers and immigrants. The company produces learning content in house, partnering with language teachers in the UK and creating a social platform where students can interact with teachers.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The grant supported Lesimo to develop the NECampus app for iOS and Android, which enriches the experience of learning English through interactive content and meaningful digital engagement with teachers.

Escape Key

Name and description of the product/service developed

The Escape Key is an escape room centre in Gallowgate area of Newcastle. They design and build escape rooms inspired by Newcastle and North East heritage. Their customers are families, businesses and tourists.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The GX grant will help The Escape Key diversify its range of products, particularly important during the pandemic, by helping them develop outdoor, app-based escape experiences played around the streets of Newcastle and beyond. The grant was spent on story boarding and scripting, content and filming and software development and API integration.

Create Talent

Name and description of the product/service developed

Create Talent is a consultancy company focussed on supporting training providers and private companies to implement a range of digital solutions including e-learning systems, processes and unique content.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

Create Talent developed an interactive e-learning system allowing their clients to be able to drive engagement. Taking an e-learning (data driven) back end and applying interactive storytelling elements and new technologies on the front end to create a more immersive interactive experience.

Special iApps

Name and description of the product/service developed

Special Words Plus, an educational subscription-based web-app that supports picture/word/audio matching activities to support learning outcomes of children with Special Educational Needs and Early Years. The web-app can be logged into on any platform, has a free trial period then monthly/annual subscription business model to continue to access.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

In order to get the product ready for market, Special iApps required legal consultancy, data protection guidance, and IP licensing support.

Affinity Systems T/A Rymote

Name and description of the product/service developed

Affinity have developed a delivery mechanism for delivering superfast broadband to rural communities

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The GX grant supports the final stages of identifying the market for the company’s wireless broadband product in rural communities, developing market understanding and testing the best the routes to commercialisation.

Southpaw

Name and description of the product/service developed

Southpaw Dance Company creates powerful, joyous performances, from small scale solo work to large scale outdoor spectaculars. The Company has been pushing the technology boundaries for performance, incorporating projection mapping and responsive lighting. Support from RTC North identified immersive technology as having the most potential for product development and monetisation and the company has been engaged in R&D to develop this new technology.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

Southpaw Dance Company used the GX grant to support the further development of a new augmented reality app. The app allows the company to become the go-to dance company for authentic immersive digital content and productions, allows an innovative approach to marketing performances when touring becomes possible, and enables the company to share participatory content. The grant funded developers to adapt and integrate AR assets into an existing Southpaw app, bringing the product very close to market.

Codification

Name and description of the product/service developed

Codification provides digital transformation professional services to regulated businesses, and high-tech skill to partners and customers.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

Codification used GX grant funds to develop a unique training programme featuring a bespoke pedagogy, which blends instructor led training with a state-of-the-art digital platform.

SixtenEighty

Name and description of the product/service developed

Sixten Eighty Ltd specialises in improving access to quality psychotherapeutic services. It launched Kiku in February 2020 to enable Independent Therapists to run their counselling business remotely.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The GX grant funded the further development of the product to support seamless payment, overcoming one of the key challenges that impacts the delivery of therapy services for our clients.

SolidBase

Name and description of the product/service developed

Solid Base Non-Profit Support offers consultation, guidance and support for the Non-Profit Sector, and works with a host of local charities, social enterprises and businesses to equip them with the tools and data to make informed decisions about non-profit activity and increase sustainability.

Description of the activity funded by the GX Innovation grant

The GX grant funded the development of a prototype and explainer video of the user generated content website – ‘The Social Value Supermarket’ that acts as a ‘one stop hub’ in all things social value.
