Tyneside Cinema is the North East’s leading specialised cinema and digital arts venue.

Tyneside Cinema opened their doors in 1937 and to this day, they are the last surviving news theatre still operating as a cinema. Tyneside Cinema offer a rich and diverse artistic programme of film, exhibitions and events across film, artist film and film heritage for audiences of all ages and from all walks of life. The Grade II listed building was restored in the late 2000s to preserve the grand decor which is heavily influenced by the 1920s Art Deco style.

Tyneside Cinema was opened in 1937 by Dixon Scott, the great uncle of Hollywood directors Sir Ridley Scott (of Alien fame) and Tony Scott (of Top Gun and True Romance fame).

  • Each cinema screen has power assisted doors and dedicated space for wheelchair users.
