Northern Stage make theatre that is imaginative, engaging and politically connected to the life of our region.

They present and collaborate with the most original regional, national and international theatre companies within Newcastle upon Tyne. They create opportunities for a broad range of audiences to participate in the performing arts and are a vital resource for theatre training in the North East. Northern Stage champion creativity and support a diverse range of artists to create ambitious and adventurous theatre.

The theatre’s beginnings were in 1970 when the current building was built to replace The Tyneside Theatre Company’s old building, the Flora Robson Playhouse.

Open daily 10.00 – 18.00 (excluding Mondays 2 & 9 July and 6, 13, and 27 August)

  • 2 entrances, both fully accessible.
  • Lifts providing access to all parts of the building, including, the accessible toilets, baby changing facilities, all stages and the backstage area.
  • Large print brochures, headsets for assisted listening and audio described brochures available on request.
