A new exhibition has been unveiled at Hexham General Hospital showcasing the work of local artists.
Entitled ‘TOUCH’, the six-month exhibition has been curated by Matilda Bevan and features work by seven local artists: Jo Aris, Enrique Azocar, Linda France, Pauline Gibson, Mathilda Hornsey, Sheila Martin and Claudia Sacher.
Describing the ideas behind the show, Matilda said: “The word TOUCH reminds viewers that not only are these hand-made things, but in hospital touch is immediately what is happening to each patient while they’re receiving care.
“My brief was to invite local artists to exhibit and they were chosen for their use of colour as a communicator and because their work has clear emotional resonance. I also felt it was really important to the ethos of the show to include a high school student’s piece [Mathilda Hornsey].”
The exhibition is on display until 26 October and can be seen in the atrium outside the HVS (Hospital Volunteer Service) shop. Some of the artwork is for sale.
