An intergenerational project whereby visitors are invited to produce a ‘mini-make piece of artwork’ inspired by their response to ‘The Station’ sited in the design-led artist made gallery ‘The Shop’ then to be placed in a ‘Time Capsule.’

The Shop at the Station is a design led gallery shop, all profits go to upkeep The Station Arts Centre (Richmondshire Preservation Trust) artist and arts facilitator Sue Dewhurst ( is the Retail Coordinator and hosts regular interactive Art mini-makes – a recent Cartoon Relay where visitors to The Shop were inspired by the design led studio ceramics, jewellery, glass, textiles and wood and created a book which was published making them published authors/ illustrators.

Similarly this project will encourage interactive, cross- generational input, prompt family discussion re identity and connections with railways, social history, the area and North in general as well as introduce art and artist made work to new audiences. We have a strong connection with Catterick Garrison as this used to be the station for National Service recruits. Visitors will be invited to produce a mini masterpiece of their own, small enough to fit on a lollypop stick (for children) and concertina sketchbook for adults over the 80 days a variety of media will be introduced to encourage return visits including ink, collage and printmaking led by artist Sue. The time capsule will be buried for prosperity becoming its own commemoration of the Great Exhibition.
