Newcastle breastfeeding support and HealthWORKS would like you to join us for the ‘Big Latch On’ event in Exhibition Park. These events take place around the world, where women gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other. We will be promoting this multi-agency support which is unique to Newcastle and available to women in the city who choose to breastfeed. There are no other areas in the UK that have this unique model which has inspired others who are looking to duplicate this service in their own areas.

Newcastle breastfeeding support provided by HealthWORKS Newcastle are a team of coordinators supporting mums in Newcastle. We have 52 trained volunteers who offer peer support to breastfeeding families.
Accredited as ‘Baby Friendly’ by UNICEF, our team work alongside health professionals and community organisations using this unique model to target breastfeeding families and support women who chose to breastfeed; the success of our innovative approach is reflected in Newcastle’s breastfeeding rates which are the highest in the North East
‘The Breastfeeding Friendly Business’ works alongside our team offering bespoke training to businesses. This training enables staff to become more aware and supportive of breastfeeding women and babies in their venues whilst creating a welcoming environment.

This year we are hosting the ‘Big Latch On’ event in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park. Global Big Latch On events take place at registered locations around the world, where women gather together to breastfeed and offer peer support to each other.
The event aims to strengthen national and global support for breastfeeding and to improve the health of children and women around the world by:
• Raising awareness of breastfeeding support and knowledge available locally and globally.
• Increasing support for women who breastfeed.
• Helping communities positively support breastfeeding in public places.
• Making breastfeeding a normal part of day-to-day life at a local community level
