Our Get North Event Support team will be made up of up to 50 volunteers who are seeking an opportunity to share or develop skills and experience in events & stage management.

As a Get North Event Support volunteer you will assist Get North event staff in setting up and packing down daily activities and pop up events, support logistics and staging of specialist events and be on hand to problem solve or assist at busy locations.

  • Key Contact: Volunteer Programme Coordinator, Technical Producer or Stage/Event/Duty Managers at activity location/venue.

Typical tasks might include

  • Shadowing Stage/Event Managers in delivering special pop up events.
  • Checking in to key locations to set up event and activity equipment.
  • Keeping events and activities to time.
  • Being on hand to support busy events and activities.
  • Helping Get North Makers to provide a welcome on busy event days.

Level of commitment

Pre-Great Exhibition: Up to 15 training hours

During Great Exhibition: Around 50-60 volunteering hours from 18 June to 09 September.

All Get North volunteers will have access to a flexible self-scheduling platform where they’ll be able pick volunteering times to fit around other commitments.

Flexible self-scheduling will offer a variety of flexible 4 & 6 hour shifts across NewcastleGateshead from 09.45 to 18.15, and on occasion until 2230.

Location

Pre-Great Exhibition: Various Locations across NewcastleGateshead.

During-Great Exhibition: Indoor venues such as Baltic, Sage Gateshead, Great North Museum. Outdoor locations such as NewcastleGateshead Quayside.

Recruitment Phases

All Get North Volunteer applicant will have the change to join one of the following recruitment Phases. All Get North Volunteers must attend one Selection Event and one Core Training Event in one Recruitment Phase.

Phase Four

Selection Events

Tuesday 29 May – 1000 to 1300 or 1400 to 1700 or 1800 to 2100 or
Thursday 31 May – 1000 to 1300 or 1400 to 1700 or 1800 to 2100

Core Training

Tuesday 05 June – 1700 to 2100 or
Wednesday 06 June – 1700 to 2100 or
Tuesday 12 June – 1700 to 2100

Please apply by 25th May to be included in Phase Four.

All Selections Events and Core Training are being held in NewcastleGateshead and have excellent public transport links. Applicants will be emailed 10 to 14 days after completing application form to choose which Recruitment Phase they would like to join.

Selection Event

All Get North Event Support applicants will be invited to a Selection Event as part your recruitment. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about what’s involved in being a Get North Event Support & Get North Maker, attend a one to one appointment with staff member or a Get North Pioneer and start your Volunteer Journey by trying on uniforms and getting you photo taken for Get North Pass.

Training & Induction

After a Selection Event, you’ll be able to sign up to a Core Training session, involving a Great Exhibition briefing, Destination Awareness, an Intro to the Way Finder App and creating your Volunteer Experience.

Once Get North Event Support have completed Core Training you will then be invited to a Health & Safety with Manual Handing which is essential for this role. Along with this you have access to lots of exciting Complimentary Training on offer from Gateshead College. This training is not essential however may enhance your experience as a Get North Event Support. Complimentary Training on offer is Health & Safety with Manual Handing, First Aid, Customer Service, Diversity/Safeguarding and many more. All Get North Volunteers will gain access to a wide range of training opportunities via Gateshead College’s Go Grow Programme.

Closer to the Great Exhibition there will be orientation and inductions sessions held at certain venues and locations to provide additional support at certain venues and events. This is Get North Event Support chance to tailor their experience. Choosing 3 to 4 locations/activities they would like to offer their volunteer hours too.

Volunteer Expenses

Between 22 June to 09 September, travel expenses for public transport within Tyne & Wear will be subsidised with a discount travel pass.

Get North Event Support volunteers working for over 5 hours will be issued with a food voucher to claim a packed lunch.

 

Uniform

All volunteers will be provided with a uniform including a t-shirt, hoodie and security pass.

As well as being involved in an array of once in a life time activities, events and previews. The volunteer programme team will be working on providing some lovely rewards, organising some invite only celebrations and discounts places around NewcastleGateshead.

Other information

Volunteers must be ages 16+ when signing up to volunteer programme.

A small number of activities linked with Get North Event Support roles may require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (these will be announced at a later date).
